Madeleine Finn Letter

About

My father's brother was a renegade, abruptly leaving the starched-collar society of his Boston upbringing in 1937 for the relaxed ambience of the country. Uncle Will seemed to be an uncomplicated sort. The scant
memories I have of him center around two things: his uniform, as he called it, an impeccable white shirtoffset by a well-cut pair of khakis, and his passion for the game of Bocce, a pastime he picked up on a vacation in Italy.

Years after he passed away, I was surprised to find, hidden in the newel-post of his staircase, a stack of letters neatly wrapped in a linen napkin and tied with twine. Each letter - addressed simply to "Dearest W"- was worn and creased, as if they had been read and, perhaps slipped into a shirt pocket to be read again later. the engraved type at the top of each sheet declared this secret correspondence to be from the desk of Madeleine Finn.

The sparce and beautiful prose that followed told of drinking wine in the Loire Valley and of playing Bocce in the shadow of the Italian Alps. Madeleine had an exuberant view of life, finding pleasure in the sublime appeal of fine and simple things. "If there is anything I have learned about life."
she wrote in her last letter to my uncle. "It is this - always aspire to live simply and elegantly." It is a philosophy I have embraced in creating the simplest and most elegant wardrobe accessory of all - a perfectly tailored , casual white shirt.

Always aspire to live simply and elegantly

The Italians call it Bella Figura: - a phrase that speaks to not just how one looks and dresses but to how one deports oneself and the elegance with which one lives life.  This is the standard to which we aspire.  Madeleine Finn is a Colorado based company known primarily for beautifully made men’s shirts. Founded on the idea that every gentleman’s wardrobe contains a favorite white shirt we began in 2001 to make our classic casual dress white.  Manufactured in the USA with the fine Italian fabric, and real cut shell buttons, plus features like monogrammed reinforced gusset covers, single needle stitching, and split miter yoke and a comfortable cut made our shirts into instant classics. Then, in response to demand from customers and retailers Madeleine Finn began in 2003 to produce shirts of the same high quality in a variety of seasonal colors, fabrics and designs.  We began by searching out the finest boutique mills in Europe to source the quality shirting fabrics we use. The joy of working with fabric of this quality construction and intricate design is equaled only by the comfort of wearing one of our shirts. Our linen, for example, is a quality, weight and drape woven in Italy exclusively for Madeleine Finn.  When you put on one of our shirts you instantly feel the difference.  Currently we produce two seasons a year – Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. We are sold exclusively in fine clothing stores.  Currently Madeleine Finn can be found in over 300 stores nation wide.

Recently Madeleine Finn has added a limited line of classically styled women’s shirts which are now selling in 10 stores nation wide.  We have also added men’s boxer shorts.  Manufactured in San Francisco designed to our quality standard and made from beautiful fabric you have to feel to believe.

Mission Statement

Simply stated, we want our shirts to be your favorite shirts. Our mission is to delight people in the comfort, quality and style of our clothing.  We want our customers to be as proud and happy to own our clothing as we are to offer it.
